Thank you Octavio...I’ll look this over and get back to you shortly.

How can we handle one-off requests using this system in the interim? For instance, I’ve got requests to track activity on the new albums by Yellowcard, The Starting Line and Interpol...can we just send the requests to you until we have an interface in place? Lindsay can send you the track listings and album titles for each of these...

Thanks,

Syd

        Syd,

Apologies for the delay since our last meeting. We have been finalizing our new marketing intelligence system and the 2 main developers took vacations that brought everything to a halt.

We have taken the artists you gave us previously and are now collecting data in our marketing intelligence system. Attached are 2 days of data. A few things about this data:

We are working on creating the login and prettying up the interface a little so we can just give you access to the system and you and or Jesse can simply log in and begin playing with it. It’s a little tough to see just how cool this new system is until you play with it. All we are doing until then is running the tool internally and producing scores at a given time. Would you like us to run it once per week until your interface is complete? Also, we can give you geographic breakdowns every week as well.

As I have mentioned before, we believe that this system is much more accurate for marketing/business intelligence purposes than our current reporting system. This system does not simply collect supply or demand but rather it uses a proprietary algorithm that takes samplings of supply, demand, and DHT data. This is significant because the new methodology allows us to contextualize popularity. In the old system if Ares grew by 20% over the course of one year then demand would grow by 20% for a title (as an extreme example 1,000,000 daily requests on Napster in 1999 is not equivalent to 1,000,000 requests on eDonkey in 2007). Therefore, it was impossible to compare old data to new data. The new system allows you to do that because we are reporting a score rather than absolute numbers. Furthermore, the new system is real-time (as opposed to a week delay) so you will be able to track P2P activity based on events.

        Best,

        O

        Good chatting with you today.

        Just to recap our conversation.

In order to streamline things, we're breaking this project into a few manageble chunks. Here's the approach:

        1. You will start queries using the existing artist/track lists you already have

        2. You'll output data as we requested into separate tables for each network

        (each track summarized by region)

        3. We'll arrange for data pickup via ftp

(most likely an automated pickup via CRON on our end pulling

         from your server)

Once we've taken a look at the results and agree it's what we need, you'll resume with the other chunks:

        4. Grabbing the artist/track list from us (SQL dump) and parsing that.

        5. We'll re-check the output

        6. Lastly we'll setup RSYNC to get the results back to us

         thereby replacing the FTP pulls.

As also discussed, you'll start with queries against the Guntella network. Once we've seen those results, you'll expand to search databases for Emule and BitTorrent. Ares not yet, but will be there shortly. Piolet will be coming online soon as well.

Let me know if I've summarized this correctly and when you might expect our first summary results.

Thanks again for all your help!
