RE: Interdiction Company Average Summaries - incorporating data to week ending May 25 2007

The key for this to work is to be spread out enough so even if DynDns
suspends some of our accounts again, it won't affect us. That looks like
how MV is getting away with it. They have enough Class A and B IPs that
they can afford to get class C/D blocks banned. I don't know how exactly
we can do it, because I guess the modem pool can't handle trackers. MV
is doing it by using DSL providers (listed below).

No, there is no difference, you are just allowed to have more in the
account and they don't time out. We had both versions banned I'm not
completely sure how they found all of our accounts anymore. Herden
should set up another one and test it out as part of our throw
everything at Fox test.

Any way to tell whether MV uses pay dyndns accounts or the free ones?

They worked fine for us until DynDns suspended all of our accounts
including our paid account because of abuse. I'd be happy to do it
again in the short term until they ban us again. Now that we have moved
and it's been a little while they may not figure out that it's us so
fast.

Are these just public trackers?

Dan also compiled a list of trackers and associated IPs they're using.
Gives an idea how spread out their IPs are.

We originally assumed it was because there projects were lower
popularity, so less focus on them....

But now we think it's because they mostly use dyndns based trackers, and
keep rotating their IPs and/or Tracker names. That way, if one of their
dyn-dns trackers gets banned, they just get another tracker.

Dan noticed that many of their dyndns IPs link to DSL providers (like
SBC), and that's probably how they can afford to keep getting their IPs
banned. They probably have lots of Class A and B's IPs to work with.

I know we used to use dynamic trackers before as well...but it might be
worthwhile for us to revisit this. Ebert, remind me why No-IP or Dyndns
didn't work well for us? I know our trackers got banned quickly...where
there other reasons?

I'm attaching our internal MV results from a few weeks ago. Besides
torrentspy, there's a big discrepancy on BTMon between us and them (2%
vs ~80%). So seems like dyndns trackers work well on certain sites.

How does macrovision maintain files on torrentspy?

Ben, please mention to John that we can automate a takedown system for
torrentspy. Tell him about our success doing this with UMG.

Thanks

Regarding BitTorrent effectiveness for Paramount, we are definitely
doing poorly. Our internal tests confirm that. What probably hurts us
the most is our 0% effectiveness on Torrentspy where Macrovision has a
semi-decent effectiveness. Also, I have a feeling that they continue to
test titles that they temporarily suspend, ie Zodiac, and include those
as part of their effectiveness calculations. Grodsky, any way we can
verify that? In their reports, they don't have break downs by project,
just by network.

On the p2p networks, their results look pretty much as expected. I
would've expected slightly higher on Gnutella2 (Shareaza) because our
internal tests have been looking pretty good.

Grodsky, if you talk to them, it would also help to get their version of
Ares and their updated server.mets.

We're beating Macrovision on Ares, eDonkey, Shareaza, and Gnutella.
Macrovision is still beating us on BitTorrent. See attached and below

week ending May 25 2007

Dear John,

Attached are the reports summarizing the overall performance of each
interdiction company on all Paramount interdicted titles based on
available download information for the week ending May 25, 2007. This
represents the 24nd week for Dreamgirls, 2nd week for Black Snake Moan,
9th week for Blades of Glory, 2nd week for Year of the Dog, 16th week
for Norbit, 13th week for Zodiac, 11th week for Shooter, 6th week for
Disturbia, and 2nd week for Shrek the Third.

We have continued to present the data based on the current weeks'
results to bring in line with the presentation of the individual title
results. The results averaged over time and the results based on the
current week's assessment show some variation. MediaDefender is
currently protecting four titles, Norbit, Zodiac, Shooter, and Disturbia
with Disturbia being a recent release, while Macrovision is protecting
four titles Dreamgirls, Black Snake Moan, Blades of Glory, and Year of
the Dog. Both MediaDefender & Macrovision are protecting Shrek the
Third.

MediaDefender for the week shows better results on Gnutella, Gnutella2,
eDonkey, and Ares. In terms of performance over 6 months, MediaDefender
continues to show lower overall Conversion Index numbers on all
protocols except for BitTorrent, where Macrovision shows a lower
Conversion Index.
