Ok, we'll handle it when you get back then.

he thinks all the reviews have already been done. i asked you about his review a couple of weeks ago (the day he asked me about it and is referring to below). you were just about to do Nainesh's review and I thought it best to wait until you made more progress with other reviews. we didn't do his review in January, mostly because he was out of the country and then when he came back we each got busy with individual projects (though we should have done it when you were doing your Dev reviews in Feb and I forgot about it again then).

when we did his last review (at the old office), one of the things that came up was that reviews were intended to be every 6 months and I apologized at that time for his review having been missed once before (when Randy was still reviewing him, before Randy delegated Tabish's review to you and me).

realistically, we're going to give him a good raise. he's done well. he could do a lot more. he'll probably calm down as soon as we do his review and give him a raise. he's earning $52.5k/year now. i think we should bring him up to $60k, with the reminder that he could be earning more and needs to continue growing his team and his team's responsibilities to be more involved with QAing for development generally and not for protection specifically. He has done OK with the proxy testing and he did offer to help test MiiVi. he/his team identified the BT interdiction peer banning stuff and this recent seed inflation exploit of MS's technology.

Is there some history or background on this or something? I was not aware that Tabish was upset about the timing of his review or the fact that it was waiting on me for something. Not a big deal, just seemed a bit out of the blue to me.

What's the question you're asking?

We did Tab's review together last year.

Tabish,

You should ask....

I'm waiting on Jay and out of the office until Thursday. He's been getting feedback from various developers, among other things, about QA integration with development.

The reason your review was missed at the beginning of the year, albeit a poor reason, was because you were out of town when we did most reviews. Again, I admit this is a poor reason.

Fyi, I haven't had a review myself in almost a year and neither has Jonathan.

I just want to know when will my review be? This is the 2nd time I'm asking about the June/July review alone. The 1st time I asked was about 3 weeks ago and I was assured that it'll get done this time. Last time, when I didn't ask about my January review, it got skipped completely. I don't think I should ever have to ask to get my reviews done, let alone ask twice about the same review.

It's now almost August and it'll be close to a year since I last had my review. From my understanding, MD's policy is to review employees twice a year, so I don't understand why there's a disconnect.

Please schedule it sometime this week.

Thanks,

Tabish

(I know what I said above probably won't help my review, but I wanted to speak my mind)

Tabish,

Ok. Your performance will definitely be appraised next week, and I promise you will be appraised regularly from now on.

Thank you,

Since I've never had a performance appraisal done for me here, I'd like to get reviewed first before I can review my employees. At least that way I know what the standard company format is like.

Thanks,
Tabish

Team,

Next week we should begin doing performance appraisals. Octavio has asked me to sit in on the remaining performance appraisals.

In preparation for performance appraisal week, Octavio would like each manager to submit to him a written draft of his employees' appraisals (before sitting with individual employees). Performance appraisals will be performed (from now on) based on the concepts of Candor (chapter 2 of Jack Welch's Winning) and Differentiation (chapter 3). If you have not been given a copy of this book already, we should have a couple of copies in the office at all times.

Thank you,

Ben Grodsky
