Hi Ben,

Tomorrow at 11:15 is fine. Just shoot me an email or aim when you are ready.

Andrew

Andrew,

I've met with several of our developers and discussed the feasibility of beginning to collect these eMule user hashes, but it sounds more and more like it probably won't provide you/Necip a good basis for the recidivism study you've told me about a few times: this would be a new system we would develop just for providing you a 3rd source of data (to our current eMule and KAD feeds) and has no connection to our protection system.

Let me know when would be a good time tomorrow, or at your next earliest convenience, to go over this by phone with me, Jay and Ben Ebert? Would 11:15 tomorrow morning be ok for you? We want to help, but we're not sure that what you're asking for here will contribute toward your goals....

Thanks,
Ben

The eMule user hash isn’t displayed in the GUI, but can be found in the preferences.dat file.

I’ll see what I can come up with.

Andrew,

Is there any way to get a screen capture of this hash, if it appears in the eMule program? We've gone down this path before and the hash that Aaron just made up wasn't the right number of characters and he wasn't clear about where that was listed (though we asked him).

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

It looks like my email is working again. Yay!

I just double checked what type of hash Bay is recording. Can you guys start capturing the eMule user hash instead of the KAD hash? Here is what they said,

“It is the eMule user hash. It is not specific to either the

traditional or Kad network, rather it is the client software's own.

It is valuable because it doesn't change from session to session in the application. Unless the user removes the configuration files or completely uninstalls and reinstalls the application, the eMule user hash remains constant.

This is what needs to be recorded.

Thanks,

Andrew
