Thanks for answering. I thought maybe GSpot would be able to do most of the work for us and we'd have to write a script to operate it a bazillion times and somehow export the codec result from it --- guess it's not as clear cut as I'd hoped. :(

We thought about doing stuff like that, but we would have to write something like GSpot, figuring out where to look in the various files to figure out codex. I believe we thought that would be too kludgey unless we handled all files.

        Dylan,

        Do you know whether G-Spot, or a similar program, would be able to detect the video codec for a file that is partially downloaded? I'm wondering whether one way we might be able to make progress in MiiVi's Media Player page would be with G-Spot analyzing files during the thumbnail downloading process that Ivan does....
