No press is bad press if we can get someone to print a retraction article about the spyware. Sucks that people will just make crap up and print it though, not much we can do about the pirate sites.

Another glowing article:

I didn't know we were so crafty:

Also offers the ability to download video content using a custom client which also scans if the user has downloaded copyrighted files.

I've issued a shutdown -h now command, that server is completely offline.

The ip is 38.102.232.160 and it's currently NOT responding to pings, which is good.

I did a shutdown on the server, so it should be down now. Steve can check to make sure it doesn't reboot, but since the miivi.com no longer points to it, I can't really check (I don't remember the old ip).

Anyway, the only thing on the server is really the database. All the code is CVSed so that's safe.

Steve, please redirect miivi.com to point to an ip that's not one of ours (random ip or whatever).

Dylan, if there's nothing critical running on the miivi server, please shut the computer down. If there is something critical on there, please let us know ASAP.

I have not turned off the server itself, I do not know what other database funcitons it is serving, however I have turned off the web server and now the website is non-functional. If this server needs to be completely shutdown, please let me know.

        K. looking at the registry info more closely, I don't think it's because of the domain transfer. It looks like this was a cached result from March.... the current whois doesn't say "MediaDefender," but the Digg article does refer to MiiVi being owned by Randy Saaf of MediaDefender.

R + O, what needs to happen?! Do you want the server pulled?
