Ty,

gotcha. that more than answers my question :)

was IT successful with the motherboard test for the PM2 ares resources that couldn't get cloned over to solaris?

Anything remotely popular on PM2 will not pass on Ares right now. It has no chance of reaching SLA effectiveness.

Also of note is that Ares has been auto load balancing based on supply for years. That was one of the first optimizations I made trying to squeeze more performance out of it. The problem is that for anything really popular, its difficult to hit hard enough while still making sure you pass all the projects of medium popularity. We could certainly move this to a manual control, but my advice is that if you don't care whether a project hits on Ares, then turn Ares off for that project.

I can only see adding a manual control if there are a lot of grey ares on PM1 where we care if a project hits, but not if it hits hard enough to notice?

anyway to compile a list of what Spanish titles we're protecting for UMG? The reason we failed the Daddy Yankee is more than just it's a popular PM2 project: ares is a predominantly Spanish-speaking p2p network, so the popular Spanish songs are just going to be that much harder to hit. i vaguely recall this sort of thing has come up a few times for us with Spanish titles on ares.

for our ares protection, is there any way for Gilbert's team to change the level of protection for a given project? in gnutella we have this concept of "gnutella load" which basically corresponds to the % of Ivan's computers that hit for that project.

        thanks,

        5 fails.

2 close fails w/ 6 real for Mika - Grace Kelly on Ares and Limewire.

2 fails on eMule. 1 of them was on our server. We were having issues last week of our servers sometimes not hitting.

1 fail on Ares for Daddy Yankee - Rompe because it's a popular PM2 project.

Ty, should we look into rotating our IPs for the new version of Ares? AM is still using v1.9.1 and I'm expecting them to upgrade in the very near future. If they upgrade, they'll upgrade to the latest version, 2.0.9, where we don't hit.
